**Project on hold**
Posted by Kirsten in Uncategorized on April 13, 2011
Well, what can I say…
I still heart film but my life is just too hectic right now to keep on with this project (I know, I know, totally lame, especially only this far in!)…I might let it morph into something else…but I might just let it sit for a while. If you miss me…head on over to THIS BLOG to see my latest works…some in film.
More sick…

Hellllooooo! This project will be back up and running on March 18th. My family has been dealing with The Plague and we are hopefully on our last ear infection FOR EVER. Sorry to any followers who have been wondering what the heck is going on around here. Promise to make it up to you!
Film Friday – Week 6
Posted by Kirsten in Fuji 400H, Nikon F100 on February 19, 2011
Yes, last week got skipped. I was (am!!) ill and just couldn’t muster up the strength. Even this week photos are mostly duds…but I have to remind myself that this exercise is meant to get me out shooting more, and that not EVERY photo has to be a masterpiece.
My hubby went to pick up the negs from Walgreens and came back with just 24 exposures…um, Walgreen’s, I gave you 36! What the heck! Ugh.
My fav from this set…the flowers given to me by my boys, to help cheer me up. 🙂 Two versions…(taken in the same place in the house, but on a different day)…The first is underexposed and has that distinctive “film” look about it…the second was way overexposed to bring out the color and contrast. I can’t decide which I like best.
View the slideshow of all unedited and uncut (or NOT thanks Walgreens!) here.
Film Friday ~ week 5
Posted by Kirsten in Color, Fuji 400H, Nikon F100 on February 6, 2011
Remember when I said last week was crazy? Well, this week showed last week up. Times 2. So welcome to, er, Film Saturday evening. 🙂
See the them large and in charge HERE.
Gear: Nikon f100, Fuji 400h, Walgreens develop and scan.
As an aside…yes, I realize I’m failing in my non-people taking efforts. Oh well.
Film Friday ~ Week 4
Posted by Kirsten in Kodak Porta 400, Nikon F100 on January 29, 2011
Oh boy…I had a crazy busy week! These shots were taken quite half-hazardly…and many just during my late lunch with the hubby today. This roll was my first with the new Kodak Porta 400…so far I like! I also have a scanner now so as soon as I have some more time on my hands (ha!) I can’t wait to see what the differences are from the Walgreen scan to my own.
Gear: Nikon F100, Kodak Porta 400, 50mm 1.8, developed and scanned at Walgreen’s
All photo’s are uncut and unedited.
In the interest of time…I made a photo-collage this week. If you want to see the full size photos in all their film glory, click HERE.
Film Friday ~ Week 3
Posted by Kirsten in Color, Fuji 400H, Nikon F100 on January 21, 2011
This weeks roll o’ film was taken at a meet-up with a bunch of other local photographers. We met up at the Fremont Sunday Market and Coen (my 4-year old) joined me. Someday I’m going to feature some of the photos he’s taken as well, because, dang! that boy has an awesome perspective. You’d think it make it hard to really get into the photo taking aspect, but really, I end up trying to move him along, while he says to me “just one more shot, Mom! Mom, move out of my shot! Oh look at that, *click* *click*”. It’s awesome.
I put one of my favorite lenses (Tamron 17-50 2.8) on my f100 and we headed out…it was until I went to take my first shot that I realized something was not right. The vignette (black circle border) you see on the below photos is the result. Kinda interesting in some…and not so much in others. Live and learn!
The film was processed and scanned by my trusty one-hour photo, Walgreens, which did me wrong this week by CUTTING ONE OF MY NEGS IN HALF! Sigh….see below for evidence.
Gear: Nikon f100, Fuji 400h, Tamron 17-50mm 2.8, scanned by the unpredictable, but always cheap Walgreens. 🙂
Film Friday ~ Week 2
Posted by Kirsten in Fuji 400H, Nikon F100 on January 14, 2011
This is kinds of a cheater week for me, actually. I’m posting a roll that I expected to be ready in time for Week 1, but just got back the other day. The bonus of getting a roll of film back that you took awhile ago is not knowing what you shot with it! Surprise!
It’s going to take me a little while to get used to finding and shooting non-human subjects…so a few shots of my boys snuck into this roll. 🙂
I had some accidental mis-fires (from freezing cold and numb fingers!) and surprise button pressings on this roll but I seriously love the power of the f100. Again, this series is uncut and unedited.
Gear: Nikon F100, 50mm 1.8, Fuji 400h, Richard Photo Lab processed and scanned the photos.
Film Friday ~ Week 1
Posted by Kirsten in Fuji 400H, Nikon F100 on January 8, 2011
Gear: Nikon F100, Fuji 400h, 50mm 1.8, Walgreens 1 hour photo 🙂
Photos are uncut and unedited…welcome to my first roll!
A few notes from this session:
- All of these photos were taken TODAY, in the pouring rain I might add…since the lab I sent my other roll too gave me a 2 week (?!) estimate! All I can say is that those photos better be GOOD! So, thanks, Walgreens 1 hour photo, for saving my butt (plus you can’t beat $5 for a 1 hour develop/scan!).
- If you ever need an open pass to photograph anything you want without making people nervous, bring your charming 4 year old with you, they make a pretty fine entrance ticket. 🙂
- This was the first roll of film I’ve seen from my f100! I’m in love.
- I over-exposed the film 1 stop or so…ala Jonathon Canlas (see his link below).
- 35 exposures is ALOT…I was stretching it towards the end trying to find things I wanted to photograph, but as always I think my best shots come at the end of a photo-session…once my brain has had a chance to warm up a bit.
This project, if you haven’t already read the “project” page, is pretty simple…just me taking a roll of film every week and posting every photo from that roll. I thought it would be fun to show EVERY photo that I take so photogs and non-photographers alike, could see the full process. And I think, in time, it will help develop/refine my own style as well.
Here’s to 2011!
It’s on! Film Friday 2011
Posted by Kirsten in Uncategorized on January 3, 2011
The first Friday of the year is 5 days away and my roll-o’-film is awaiting transport to the lab. Eeeep! I’m so excited! I took my very first photo-stroll of 2011 with my new-to-me Nikon F100 (love…hopefully my pictures agree) and my first roll of 2011, Fuji 400H, in my very own neighborhood of the lovely White Center. Now if I could only contain my anticipation for the scans to come back from the lab.
While your waiting…check out the links at the bottom of the page for some film inspiration and let me know if you’d like to join along in this project with me! No rules apply for you…just show us your film!
Welcome!
